Case-IH Tractor History

Case-International Harvester (CIH) tractors are some of the most iconic agricultural machines in history. The company was formed in 1985 after the merger of J.I. Case and the International Harvester Company. The merger created a company that was second only to John Deere in terms of size and market share. Over the years, Case-International tractors have become known for their ruggedness, reliability, and versatility.

J.I. Case was founded in 1842 by Jerome Increase Case in Racine, Wisconsin. The company initially produced threshing machines and other agricultural equipment. In 1869, Case began producing steam-powered traction engines, which were used for plowing and threshing. These machines were the forerunners of the modern tractor.

In 1902, Case introduced its first gasoline-powered tractor, the Case 30. The tractor was a huge success and set the standard for the modern tractor. Over the years, Case continued to innovate and introduced many new features to its tractors, including power take-off (PTO) and hydraulic systems.

International Harvester (IH) was formed in 1902 through the merger of McCormick Harvesting Machine Company and Deering Harvester Company. The company produced a wide range of agricultural machinery, including tractors, combines, and plows. In 1924, IH introduced the Farmall, the first tractor to have all four wheels the same size. This feature made the tractor more stable and easier to maneuver.

In the years that followed, IH continued to innovate and introduced many new features to its tractors, including hydraulic systems and power steering. The company also expanded its product line to include trucks and construction equipment.

In 1985, J.I. Case and International Harvester Company merged to form Case-International Harvester (CIH). The merger created a company with a wide range of products, including tractors, combines, construction equipment, and trucks.

Over the years, Case-International tractors have become known for their reliability and versatility. The company has produced a wide range of tractors, from small utility models to large row-crop tractors. Today, Case-International tractors are still in use on farms and construction sites around the world.
